hi, your HDD is almost at the end of its life so invest in a new one, use a good windows cd, but check your memory with memtest.

He specifically said that he's changed the HDD already to a new one and that it didn't change a thing.

I'm with Kops here, see if you can get a new Windows CD to install from, the one you're using there might be borked.

lol the hdd had 31 bad sectors.and 31 recovered.i installed win7 and the system works good.
i guess the local computer shop told the guy the mobo was shot and to throw the laptop away.what a goof they have workin there
it took 7 frickin hrs to run hdd regenerator.alls the guy said was to mark it in my time sheet.geeze
