Im sure some of you guys have seen Über pwnsause CounterStrike:Source players and wonder how do they get so good?? Well heres a few tips and tricks that gets me pretty decent scores.
Tip #1: Play widescreen.
Why? Because when your playing on maps like cs_office, de_dust2, or cpl_mill, theres not much activity going on at the top and bottom of the screen. When you play widescreen, the top and bottom gets cut off a bit and the side gets bigger so you can see more of the playing field. Even if you have a 4:3 monitor, play CS:S in a widescreen window, it will help big time!
Other Info: If your playing in a window, you won't be able to adjust your gamma so some areas might be really dark.
Tip #2: Use small crosshairs.. small as in "cl_crosshairscale 8000" (doesn't get any smaller (visually) then that
)
Why? Because when you have a really small crosshair such as cl_crosshairscale 8000 , the first couple shots you fire when your not moving will always hit on or around that dot. So if your trying to shoot someone down with an AK from far away with a large sized crosshair, you might think the center is aimed on the person's head when its really not. Having a small crosshair will allow you to shoot more accurately far away or up close.
Other Info: Takes a bit getting used to but will definitely help you in the long-run.
Tip #3: Don't shoot while in air or on a ladder (except with shotgun).
Why? Because when your in the air or on a ladder, you have less control over your recoil so the bullets will go everywhere except where your pointing. If you manage to kill someone thats a good range away from you while in air then that is pure luck

.
Other Info: The shotgun isn't affected by this since it just shoots in a cone shape no matter where you aim it. If you have a shotgun whether its pump or auto, you can jump and climb ladders while shooting and still have the bullets go where your shooting and maybe get you a kill
Tip #4: Burst fire with rifles when far away.
Why? If you hold down the trigger, the recoil will build up and eventually the bullets that you fire will be nowhere near where your aiming. If your using a rifle, shoot 2-4 shots then let the recoil go down for a second then shoot again. Do not hold down the trigger, which is called "spraying", unless your really close to someone, like in an office on cs_office.
Other Info: If your using an SMG, you can hold down the trigger on most of them and the recoil will stay the same, however, if your at long range with an MP5, firing in bursts will benefit you as well.
Tip #5: Take out knife or scout (if you have one) when running/rushing.
Why? This game is designed to be very realistic so Valve made guns like rifles and machine guns slow you down a bit when your running because its so heavy. Its best to take out your knife or scout, which allows you to run faster then a knife, at the beginning of the round if you decide to rush. If your in front of everyone and have an AK/M4 while rushing, you'll get called a n00b by the other players since your running slower then the rest and your getting in their way by blocking them.
Other Info:This doesn't really make you play better if you don't rush, but if you do, make sure to take out your knife or scout and you'll run much faster then having a rifle out. Here is the list of fastest to slowest guns (when running)
Scout>Knife>Pistols>Grenades [Flash, Smoke, Frag]>SMGs>Bomb>Rifles>AWP [Sniper]>M249 [MachineGun].
Tip #6: Don't use silenced weapons.
Why? Having a silencer on your M4A1 or USP is useless most of the time and makes the gun do
less damage. There is no point to having it. You can "say" it shoots more accurately and "silences" the noise but in reality it does not. There is no proof that a silenced gun sprays/shoots more accurately then a non-silenced gun and for the actual "silencing" part.. it still makes a muffled noise which you can still hear nice and loud through 2 walls. Even if you want to sneak up on someone or flank a group with a silenced M4, after you kill a guy or two, the enemies nearby will, or should, be smart enough to know your there because of the little X's on their radar so being sneaky ain't easy even with a silenced gun. The only time I recommend using a silenced gun is when shooting through smoke, you won't see the muzzle from the tip of the barrel of the gun so enemies can't shoot that muzzle and kill you. Other then that, the silencer is useless IMO.
Other Info: About the silenced weapons doing less damage.. its only by 1-4 damage less then a non-silenced weapon but that 1-4 extra damage will save you many times if you have a knack for leaving enemies with 1 health.
Tip #7: Don't make excessive noise.
Why? Making too much noise (running (footsteps), switching guns, shooting runs, walking into chairs, breaking chairs, breaking windows,.. etc.) allows players with high quality sound to pinpoint your exact location. The best way to play on servers with small amounts of players, avoid anythings that will make a sound, if you can walk around a window instead of breaking the glass to go through it, walk around. Breaking that window will allow other players to hear the noise and even if they didn't hear it, they would have known you went past that area and can possibly call for backup. For the players that play with "iPod headphones", "on-monitor" speakers, or just crappy speakers in general, you won't hear the enemy when they make a noise but if you have headphones like Sennheisers HDs, or iCEmat Siberias, you'll hear everything. Thats because with PC gaming, hardware is half the fight.
Other Info: Ever had someone pop out right when you pass by?? Yep, thats right, they heard you!!!
Tip #8: Use right click to knife.
Why? Right clicking with the knife is a strong stab that does 55 damage instead of the left click's little shank of 15 damage. However, when right clicking, the knife stabs alot slower then with the left click so it would best to use the left click stabs to break glass and other obstacles quickly while using the right stab for players
Other Info: Damage is doubled when knifing someone's back, so a right click stab on someone's back would be an instant kill since 55x2=110 damage.
Tip #9: Control your spray!
Why? While it is recommended
NOT to spray.. but there are rough times when you'll just panic and spray but when you do, you should control the spray and the recoil by moving the gun downwards a bit as it shoots. Keep the crosshair stable and not have it move around alot, for guns such as the m249, it jerks around alot and if you keep the crosshair stable on the enemy, the spray will be controlled and more bullets will go where your aiming at.
Other Info: Different guns require different recoil controlling, guns like the AK can score you a headshot while aiming at the enemy's feet. This will be covered in a future tip..
Tip #10: Aim at head during the beggining of the round, chest at the middle of round, and stomach at the end of round.
Why? When a new round starts, people's health starts fresh at 100 along with their kevlar/helmet (if they bought one). At the beggining of the round, aiming at the head will get you the most kills since usually 1-3 shots in the face with most guns will usually kill somebody. You might miss a few shots, but even if you hit them several times in the chest and they don't die it still won't count as a kill so just aim at the head in the begining of the round. In the middle of the round, there will be a few players thats injured so it would be best to assume their health has been weakened and aim at their chest. At the end of the round, most players should be weakened and aiming at the stomach will get you the most kills.
Other Info: This probably won't be always true, but it is most of the time. I have seen people try to get headshots at the end of the round with a scout, not knowing the other player only has 20 health left, and die.
Tip #11: Quick switch to primary/secondary weapon after throwing a nade by pressing 1 or 2.
Why? When you throw a nade, your model shows your arm moving forward and actually throwing it instead of instantly taking out your primary (default after a nade throw) gun. While that little animation sequence is playing, you can get awped in your face by a nearby enemy because you took your gun out a second too late . To prevent this, right as you see the nade leave your hand, press 1 or 2 once (to instantly switch to your primary gun) or press 2 twice (to instantly switch to your secondary pistol).
Other Info: When most people try to do this for the first time, they tend to press the 1 or 2 too early and they'll switch to their gun before the nade is actually thrown. It will take many tries to get it right but once you get the hang of it, it is really helpful.
Tip #12: Instantly re-bolt your Awp by switching to another weapon and back via number buttons or scroll wheel on mouse.
Why? It takes almost 2 seconds for you to re-bolt your Awp after you shoot it. If you quick re-bolt it by scrolling your mouse wheel and changing to another weapon and back, it will instantly re-bolt. This can save you almost 2 seconds and lets you shoot another shot much faster. The mouse wheel is recommended over the number pads. Also, I know people that use "Q" to quick switch, my Q is always binding to a word or something so I myself don't really use that button too much when actually playing, if you find this easier to use and more efficient then by all means use the Q to quick re-bolt your Awp.
Other Info: There are many scripts available for both the quick nade to gun switch and the quick Awp re-bolt. Even though these scripts are 100% legal to use, they
will get you zBlock kicked and/or CAL/CPL banlisted since they are not "League-Friendly". If you don't plan on playing in CAL and/or competitive pubs/scrim servers with zBlock, then go ahead and script all you want.
If you plan on playing on the BPC server, you might want to download the BPC CS:S GunGame Map Pack made by Squeeky and hosted by many members of BPC! Thanks!
